You don’t want to be caught off guard by your first snow fall or freeze. It can be quite the task to remove snow and ice from your deck, stairs, roof, car, and more without the right equipment. Below are the absolute essential tools you need for the different parts of your house. If you couple these with warm winter clothes and a solid pair of winter work boots than there is no task you can’t accomplish.
Shovel
This shovel on Amazon is the shovel that I had when I lived up in northern New York and is also the shovel that collects dust in my garage now that I live in Georgia. It collects dust because I can’t get rid of it because of how valuable it was when we needed it. We plan on moving back up north eventually which means it will be seeing a lot more use.
You don’t need a separate snow plow with this shovel and its double hand holds with a horizontal handle is more ergonomic and you can really feel the difference in your back after your done shoveling 3 feet of snow off your drive way…that’s experience.
Salt
These salt pellets on Amazon are my favorite when it comes to making your driveway safe. They work even in -40 degree weather and won’t kill your plants or grass while its at it. Many salt brands will melt and then allow the water to refreeze which can sometimes make it more dangerous, but this is the best I have found.
This brand on Amazon is one that I would use if I had pets. Note that I said “if I had pets”. I don’t and I haven’t gotten this brand but based off my research and other ratings I believe this to be the best brand for pets. If and when I do test these out I will give an update.
Roof Rake
This roof rake on Amazon is definitely the heavy duty option and is not on the upper end that will break the bank like the snow removal systems costing sometimes several hundred dollars. Like I said though this is the heavy duty option and so if you won’t ever use this for heavy snow applications than check out this space saving option that I like too.
Snow Blower
This snow blower on Amazon is quiet and gets the job done in the vast majority of circumstances. It has great ratings and a descent price for a snow blower. The only downside is the power when really put to a heavy snowfall. While it is lightweight and easy to maneuver you might find yourself going over the driveway several times since it has a smaller intake.
If you want a one stop shop and you are willing to pay for it then this snow blower on Amazon might be the monster you are looking for. Massive engine(208ccs) and easy electric start makes this big boy the go to for the big jobs.
Bonus
Alright, this blog is not about cars which is why I don’t recommend their products, but this thing saved my butt a time or two when getting ready for work every day in the heavy snow. I used RainX 2 in 1 all season on Amazon. If you turn your car on to warm it up before you go as your are scraping off your windshield just spray the wiper fluid. This one won’t freeze and if you spray it and let it sit for a few minutes you can pretty much turn on your wipers and watch the ice melt off. Easy.
